Pintxos and Porróns!

  • Old Vines Supper Club 2795 Davis Boulevard Naples, FL, 34104 United States (map)

Summer is in full swing here in SWFL, and it's about this time that we start truly pining for a full-blown, turn-off-the-phones, soul-calibrating vacation.  That yearning inspired us to bring those vacation vibes home to roost, with a downright entertaining twist on our weekly Wine Dinner Series.

An evening of Pintxos & Porróns, hosted by Wine Director Zach Bingham, will transport you to the majestic coastal region of Basque in northern Spain.

Pintxos (or pinchos) are a type of small snack typically served in bars and taverns in northern Spain, especially in the Basque Country. They are similar to tapas but are usually skewered with a toothpick (hence the name "pintxo," which comes from the Spanish verb "pinchar," meaning "to poke" or "to skewer"). In the past two decades, Pintxos have evolved into a Michelin star-quality exposé of seasonal fare and signature statement.

A porron is a traditional Spanish wine pitcher, originating from Catalonia and popular throughout Spain, particularly in the regions of Catalonia and the Basque Country. It is a glass vessel with a narrow spout and a handle, designed for communal drinking.  To use a porron, you hold it with both hands, tilt it, and pour the wine directly into your mouth from a distance. The goal is to create an unbroken stream of wine without touching the spout with your lips, making it a fun and social way to enjoy wine among friends.

It's sure to be a party. Don't miss out!
