The Diver, The Dock Squares, and 1930s Glassware

This Week at Old Vines Kennebunk

GET TO KNOW YOUR WINE BAR

We get a lot of questions about the diver hanging above the end of the bar, in the spot the locals like to call "the condo."

It’s often mistaken for a painting, but the diver is actually a photograph by Palm Springs photographer Gary Dorothy, an early adopter of digital photography. Gary snapped this shot during a trip back east, where he photographed a bunch of abandoned buildings.

The diver lives in the Supper Club in Naples, as well, flanked by white plumb blossoms.

SUMMER HIJINKS ON THE PATIO

The [zany] Dock Squares are back to play out summer on the patio Wednesday, 6-9pm. Reservations are still available, and walk-ins are always welcome!

NEW TO OUR WINE LIST

A new gem among our reds by the bottle: Stark-Condé Cabernet Sauvignon from Stellenbosch, South Africa. This one’s rich and full-bodied, with flavors of dark berries, a touch of oak, and just a hint of spice. Made in the beautiful Jonkershoek Valley, it really highlights the region's unique character and the careful winemaking that makes it something special.

COCKTAIL HIGHLIGHT: THE BLUSHING NORA

The Nick and Nora glass, named after characters from the 1934 film The Thin Man, is a sleek, compact glass that’s become a favorite for cocktails. With a slightly curved bowl and a slim stem, it holds about 5 to 6 ounces—perfect for stirred drinks like Manhattans or Martinis. Its design helps concentrate the drink’s aromas, making each sip more enjoyable.

And it's a perfect vessel for one of our favorite summer cocktails: The Blushing Nora, a showstopper with its vibrant color and balanced flavors. It features Cappelletti, an elegant Italian aperitif with a bittersweet kick, paired with Bimini Gin’s botanical notes. St. Germain adds a touch of floral sweetness, while grapefruit gives it a fresh, zesty finish. The result is a perfectly balanced drink that’s as delicious as it is beautiful.

COCKTAIL HIGHLIGHT: THE PEAR CRUSH

Our Pear Crush is a vibrant and refreshing cocktail that brings together the crisp and smooth flavors of Absolut Pear Vodka and the rich, fruity notes of St. George Pear Brandy.  Freshly squeezed lemon and orange juices add a zesty brightness, perfectly balanced by a splash of Sprite for a hint of sweetness and effervescence. A dash of orange bitters ties everything together with a subtle, aromatic complexity.

This well-rounded and invigorating cocktail is a sophisticated yet approachable drink that’s perfect for any occasion.
