Join us for a journey of taste and discovery of the jewels of the Adriatic.
Vineyards in Croatia and Slovenia have a rich history dating back to ancient times, with winemaking traditions that stretch back over 2,500 years. Both regions were part of the Roman Empire, which significantly influenced their viticulture. Croatia's coastal Dalmatian vineyards thrived under Roman rule, while Slovenia's Podravje and Primorje regions became known for their diverse microclimates and grape varieties. Throughout the centuries, these wine cultures faced challenges, including Ottoman invasions, wars, and the phylloxera epidemic in the 19th century. However, after the dissolution of Yugoslavia, both countries began revitalizing their wine industries, focusing on indigenous grape varieties like Malvazija in Croatia and Rebula in Slovenia. Today, Croatian and Slovenian wines are gaining international recognition for their quality and unique expressions, blending centuries of tradition with modern winemaking techniques. Join us as we explore these diverse landscapes and discover these jewels of the Adriatic. Hosted by Kaitlyn Duke of XXI Wines & Spirits.
